I happened to to be looking down at the time of the double flash. The flashes lit up the ground and sky brighter than the full moon. Initial impression was that of lightning followed quickly by thunder. No rainstorms were in the area as confirmed by radar. There was a thin overcast at the time, so the azimuth and elevation reported by me are based on general illumination of the ground and sky, and the direction of the sound from my location.

I thought it sounded like thunder. I went inside the house to check National Weather Service radar to see if there thunderstorms in the area there were none.

I saw a bright double flash reflected on the ground. The sound I heard was from the east north-east. There was a thin overcast.
