I probably don't rise to the level of amateur astronomer but I try to never miss meteor showers, or comets or eclipses. I've seen several fireballs and thousands of meteors over my 63 years. This one was the biggest and brightest I've seen.

Start as a tiny point of light dead ahead of me and then quickly grew to size of quarter/half dollar held at arms length then rapidly reduced in size. It then began to move from right to left and downward with a trail of "smoke" and smaller bright fragments fanning out behind it.
